Why are we Gr8ful and not just Grateful, and why sunflowers?!
8 is an infinity symbol turned on it’s side; positive connections have infinite possibilities. Sunflowers provide energy in the form of nourishment and vibrancy. Positive connections nourish our souls and create vibrant communities.
The mission of the North Coastal Council of PTAs is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
More than ever before our kids are facing depression and anxiety in staggering numbers; the introduction of vaping devices has posed an unprecedented risk to their health; and smart phones . . . we don’t know where to start.
In April 2019, as we sat around the kitchen table of a local School Board member, we were supposed to be planning a wellness event. By the end of the planning meeting we had cancelled the event and decided that rather than just a one-day event, we needed a community culture shift. We realized that one thing that has been shared over and over again as we talk to friends, family and neighbors - in this hyperspeed digital age, we’ve lost our sense of personal connection and community.
We've been meeting at kitchen tables ever since and have collaboratively created this parent driven website of shared resources, and more importantly begun planning a series of local community connection events, to remind ourselves that community matters and we can share, connect and inspire one another with creative and collaborative solutions to address the serious issues that face our kids and families and by extension help them reach their potential.
We hope that with your help and involvement we can make positive, infinite connections that will have a lasting impact.
